Starting November 15, 2012 EFTPS is making some changes. They have changed the website to remove defaults from the tax period and settlement date. If you have used the site at the end of a quarter, you know how easy it was to post to the wrong tax period. Now, with this change, you will select the tax period. Additionally, EFTPS has added a pop up calendar to allow the selection of the payment date. This is changing from a default of the next business settlement date.
These changes should allow for more accuracy and fewer errors; however, it is important to know that the look of the site will be different. They have also added a secure online survey that may popup when you log in.
You can give EFTPS your feedback at sbse.eftps@irs.gov or 1.202.874.3530.
If you need any assistance with this change, please contact me at JMF and I will be happy to assist you.
Went to this website to pay tax bill for 2013 since I am out of the country right now. Input all of the data and was then informed that my login info and pin# would be mailed to me….which totally defeated what I and others that are not going to be at their home to receive mail. Why you could not send email without information is puzzling?
Jon,
The EFTPS site does this to prevent identity theft. They mail the PIN to the address the IRS has on record for the taxpayer identification number. This helps to ensure that someone else can’t sign up in your name or get a PIN to your account and then change the information related to it. Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous people out there who make things more difficult for the rest of us.
Safe Travels!
Thanks,
Linda
