The Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Technology Network presented the awards for Alabama’s 2013 Manufacturers of the Year. Tuscaloosa County’s Mercedes-Benz auto plant was named large manufacturer of the year.

The Vance auto plant employs 3,000 people, and, with the addition of the C-Class sedan to the assembly lines, 1,400 new jobs will be created by the plant in 2015.

Also recognized were 3M Guin for the medium manfacturer award and GATR (Ground Antenna Transmit and Receive) Technologies for the small manufacturer award.

Winners for each size category were chosen from 17 finalists, and the awards were based on the companies’ leadership, performance and work force relations.
