The rebuilding of our City is going to be costly, despite the insurance and FEMA reimbursements. One way to help is to register when volunteering or donating in-kind items (use of equipment or providing materials/supplies) because your hours of labor and in-kind donations (use of equipment, donated materials, etc.) that are documented and tracked by the City will help defray the cost under FEMA aid.  The hours are then multiplied by a rate and the total dollars of volunteer hours plus the value of any in-kind donations are deemed a local match.  There will be projects that will require a local match by the City/County/State so accumulating the worth of documented volunteer hours and documented in-kind donations will help not only our citizens who are in need but also our City/County/State with the financing of the rebuilding process.  Hours of service and in-kind donations must be tracked by location (City vs County) and some debris removal hours will be applied to the State during the period the State is funding the non-FEMA share of debris removal.  

If you hear of anyone who is donating the use of equipment or providing other in-kind donations, please encourage them to make those non-cash contributions count for the City/County/State. Please let church groups, civic groups and others know to contact LaDonnah Roberts at 205-248-5045 so that your volunteer hours not only help those in need but also help our City/County/State financially.  The only cost is a little extra time to register and complete the paperwork.  LaDonnah is working at the McAbee Center.  Many churches throughout the US who want to coordinate their summer mission projects to help Tuscaloosa have contacted her.
