This morning, Friday March 20, 2020, the US Treasury officially changed the filing due date for tax returns from April 15, 2020 until July 15, 2020.  Tax returns and tax payments are now both officially due on or before July 15, 2020.

This is a welcome change from our communication to you yesterday.

The Alabama Department of Revenue indicated on their website that they planned to mirror IRS extensions as appropriate and enter corresponding taxpayer relief orders. The Department has not released an official statement at this time but we expect that it will be issued very soon.

We are encouraging all of our clients to continue to get your tax documents for 2019 as soon as you can.  We will continue to process tax returns as soon as possible.  As a reminder, you can continue to use our secure drop box outside the Tuscaloosa office to drop off your tax documents.  We have placed signs in the parking lot directing you to the drop box.

As our country continues to deal with the ramifications of COVID-19, our JMF employees may be forced to do things a little differently.  For the safety of our clients and employees, we may be working different hours and/or working remotely from home.  Our policies and procedures related to security and technology will allow us to work remotely while maintaining the security and confidentiality of your tax documents.

If you have any questions or comments concerning the changes by the Treasury Department or the Coronavirus relief bill passed this week, please contact your JMF accountant.
